For bedroom DJs who are stuck

Stop guessing what to learn next.

There's no shortage of DJ tutorials. There's a shortage of anyone telling you which ones are for you, in what order, and what's actually worth paying for. Answer five questions and we'll tell you where to start. Already got a mix? Send it in, and the community will hear it.

60 seconds · free · no course to buy from us

Whatever you're mixing on

  • Pioneer DDJ-FLX4
  • Pioneer DDJ-200
  • Another AlphaTheta / Pioneer controller
  • Pioneer DDJ-REV1
  • Numark (Mixtrack etc.)
  • Hercules

The real problem

You bought the controller. You watched forty YouTube videos. And you still can't get through two tracks without a trainwreck.

Every tutorial assumes you already know things nobody taught you, and half of them are using gear that looks nothing like yours. It's not you. It's that nobody gave you the path in order.

What you get

A straight answer, and a room full of people at your stage.

We don't sell a course. We tell you where you are, point you at the training that's genuinely worth it, starting with a free mini-course that costs nothing, and give you somewhere to bring the mix when you've made one. If the honest answer is "you don't need to spend anything yet," that's the answer you get.

  • Told where to start

Sixty seconds of questions, and a straight answer about what you should do next, including 'nothing paid, yet'.

  • One recommendation, not forty tabs

We point at the training we'd send a friend to, and say why. No affiliate soup, no ten-item listicle.

  • Somewhere to send the mix

Finish something, put it in front of people, and find out what actually landed.

  • A room that hears it

A community of people at the same stage as you. Free, and the point of the whole thing.

What this is

An honest guide, and a community.

Bedroom to Booth is a community for beginner DJs, and a straight answer about what to learn and in what order. We don't teach the courses. We point you at the ones worth your time and money, starting with the free ones, and we run the place you bring your mixes when you've made one.

We recommend training we actually rate, and we earn a commission if you buy through us, at no extra cost to you. We'd rather say that on the front page than have you find it out later.

It's also why the free mini-course comes first, and why "you don't need to buy anything yet" is an answer the quiz genuinely gives.

How it works

  1. Take the quiz

Five questions about where you actually are, not how long you've been at it.

  2. Get a straight answer

Where to start, what's worth paying for, and what to do for free first.

  3. Start with the free mini-course

There's a genuinely free mini-course we point people to. Real lessons, rekordbox and Serato both.

  4. Record something

A finished mix beats another month of tutorials. Even a rough one.

  5. Send it in

The community listens to everything. Standouts get torn apart properly on the channel.

The whole thing works in one direction: find out where you are, do the next real thing, and put it in front of people. Everything else is procrastination with a progress bar.

Free. Nothing to buy here.

Not in the mood for questions? Leave your address and you're in. The quiz just means the advice you get is actually about you.

Start with the free stuff

Before you spend anything: there's a genuinely free mini-course we point people to, actual lessons, rekordbox and Serato both, not a sales reel. It's the best no-cost starting point we know of, and it's the first thing we send you. Take the quiz and we'll point you at the part of it that matches where you are.

The flywheel

Record something, and have somewhere to put it.

Send a mix in and the community listens. Standouts get shortlisted, voted on, and torn apart properly on the channel. The useful kind of teardown, by people who want you to get better rather than to look clever.

It's free, and it's the part we actually run ourselves.

Questions

Are you selling me a course?

No. We don't have one. We recommend established course sites that already do this well, better than a newcomer could, and we point you at the right one for where you are.

So how do you make money?

If you buy through our link, we get a commission. It costs you nothing extra. We'd rather tell you that up front than have you find out later, and it's why we point you at the free mini-course first, and why "you don't need to buy anything yet" is an answer the quiz genuinely gives.

What do I get for free?

The quiz and its recommendation, the community, and having your mixes listened to and talked about. Plus we'll point you at a free mini-course that's genuinely free and genuinely worth doing.

What gear do I need?

A controller and a laptop. Some common ones are listed at the top of this page, and most other beginner controllers work fine. The moves are the same even when the buttons move. If you haven't bought anything yet, say so in the quiz and we'll take that into account.

Is this for me if I only ever want to DJ at home?

Yes. "Just me, at home" is a real answer and a good one. This is about the joy of mixing, wherever you end up playing.

Ready?

Sixty seconds, five questions, and a straight answer about what to do next.
